Participation of the citizens

The main purpose of the European Union (EU) is to look after the interests of its own citizens. Every citizen of every EU member state is automatically a citizen of the European Union. In other words, because Finland is a member of the Union, Finnish citizens are at the same time citizens of the European Union.
